A collection of older Electronic Arts PC games has arrived on Steam – spanning 25 classic titles, including seven restored Anniversary Editions: Road Rash and six games from the Wing Commander series. The remaining 18 games are being released on Steam for the first time and include the Ultima series, Crusader and Theme Hospital.
The restoration work began after the discovery of a physical media vault containing thousands of Betacam, VHS and D1 tapes, along with other media. Digitising that material recovered the master full-motion video sequences for all seven Anniversary Edition games, which had been thought lost. These were then re-edited to restore more than 1,500 cinematic scenes across the games.
Each Anniversary Edition keeps the original look, feel and creative intent of the game, while adding quality-of-life updates to support modern systems, improve controls and performance, and make the games easier to get into. For the Wing Commander titles, EA worked with the series’ community to include fan-made mods in the official releases. As a result, anyone who already owns a digital copy of the Wing Commander games on GOG or the EA App will automatically receive the Anniversary Edition upgrade for free on that platform.
The Road Rash and Wing Commander Anniversary Editions are priced at $14.95 AUD each, with the other classic games at $7.95 AUD each. The full collection is available on Steam, GOG and the EA App, with discounts on Steam and GOG for a very limited time.
