Satoshi Mizukami’s manga Spirit Circle is getting a TV anime. REMOW has announced that the adaptation will begin airing and streaming in December 2026, with a teaser visual, teaser trailer, main cast and ending theme also revealed. The series will run for 18 episodes, and global streaming platforms will be announced later.
The anime was directed by Tatsuo Sato, known for Martian Successor Nadesico, Bodacious Space Pirates and Stellvia, who also handled series composition. Spirit Circle is his final directorial work, as Sato has since passed away. Production was completed under assistant director Kentaro Mizuno, with the team continuing Sato’s creative vision for the series. Animation production was handled jointly by NAGOMI and EOTA, both part of the Twin Engine Group, with Twin Engine producing.
In a joint statement, NAGOMI, EOTA and Twin Engine paid tribute to Sato, sharing:
Director Tatsuo Sato devoted his exceptional knowledge, extraordinary passion, and tremendous efforts to the production of the TV anime Spirit Circle. We have been able to bring the series to completion while carrying forward the vision and dedication he poured into this project. As we prepare to bring Spirit Circle, his final directorial work, to audiences, our entire team remains united in our commitment to delivering the series. We would like to express our deepest respect and gratitude for Director Sato’s remarkable contribution throughout his career, and offer our heartfelt condolences on his passing.
Spirit Circle began serialisation in 2012, and the anime arrives as the manga marks the 10th anniversary of its conclusion. Mizukami is also the creator of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer and Sengoku Youko. The manga is published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment.
The story follows Fuuta Okeya, a middle school student who can see spirits. His life is turned upside down when a mysterious transfer student, Kouko Ishigami, suddenly tries to kill him, declaring that she will destroy his soul and break the cycle of reincarnation. The reason lies in a connection between the two that stretches back through their past lives. To find out the truth, Fuuta uses the Spirit Circle, a mysterious device that lets him relive his previous lives, taking him from ancient civilisations to the far future as he and Kouko clash again and again across different eras and identities.
Original creator Satoshi Mizukami spoke about the challenges of adapting the story and thanked the production team and Sato.
Spirit Circle is getting an anime adaptation! It’s a story that takes us through seven different lives, each set in a different time and place. With seven times the usual amount of worldbuilding required and an unusual runtime that’s longer than one cour but shorter than two, bringing this story to anime was no easy task. I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone on the production team who worked so hard to overcome these challenges and make this adaptation possible, and especially to Director Tatsuo Sato. Whether you’ve read the original manga or are discovering Spirit Circle for the first time, I hope you’ll stay with us all the way to the end.
Assistant director Kentaro Mizuno described the series as a coming-of-age story at heart and spoke about the effort the team put into it.
Spirit Circle is a classic coming-of-age story at its heart, blending youthful adventure with science fiction. Now, on the 10th anniversary of the manga’s conclusion, the long-awaited anime adaptation is finally here. The entire staff and cast poured their hearts and souls into bringing Fuuta, Kouko, and the others’ stories of reincarnation to life within the endless cycle of rebirth. We hope you’ll enjoy all 18 episodes to the fullest, and experience the journey again and again!
The main cast features Kazuki Ura as Fuuta Okeya, Anna Nagase as Kouko Ishigami, Eri Yukimura as Rune and Yuichi Nakamura as East. Character designs are by Satoru Fujimoto.
Kazuki Ura introduced Fuuta and the emotions at the centre of his story.
“I’m Kazuki Ura, and I’ll be voicing Fuuta Okeya. Fuuta is your typical middle school boy. He gets flustered around a cute transfer student, goofs around with his classmates, and acts just like any other boy his age. But when he meets Kouko, he’s forced to confront his past lives, versions of himself that are both him and yet not him. I hope viewers will experience alongside Fuuta the weight of the complex emotions that he and Kouko have carried across different eras, feelings that can’t simply be defined as right or wrong. It’s a wonderful story filled with laughter, bittersweet moments, and warmth. I hope you’ll look forward to watching the anime!”
Anna Nagase explained how she approached the role of Kouko after reading the manga.
I’m Anna Nagase, and I’ll be voicing Kouko Ishigami. When I first read the original manga, I was so captivated by the story that, before I knew it, I’d finished the entire series in just one day. While I was thrilled to hear about the anime adaptation, I also felt strongly that this was a work that would demand a high level of skill and expressiveness from its voice actors. I approached the recording sessions with great care, taking the time to explore Kouko’s determination, resolve, and delicate emotions. I hope you’ll look forward to watching the anime when it airs!
Eri Yukimura shared her thoughts on playing the cheerful Rune and on the series’ themes.
I’m Eri Yukimura, and I’ll be voicing Rune! One day, she’s suddenly summoned, and, ta-da!, she bursts onto the scene! With her boundless cheerfulness, she’s a truly comforting presence. As I read the original manga, I found myself thinking how uplifting her bright personality was. I’m genuinely delighted to have the opportunity to bring Rune to life. Reincarnation is a central theme of Spirit Circle, and the story has been crafted with great care, placing tremendous importance on the connections between people. Different eras, countries, and people all come full circle, their stories intertwining and ultimately connecting to the present. I hope you’ll enjoy exploring this wonderful world!
Yuichi Nakamura encouraged viewers to give the series their full attention.
Spirit Circle isn’t exactly a series with a simple, straightforward story. It’s the kind of work that I’d really encourage viewers to give their full attention to. As the story unfolds across different eras and worlds, I hope you’ll follow the protagonist on his journey as he gradually discovers what it truly means to live through each of his experiences. Through my role as East, I hope I can contribute to bringing the world of Spirit Circle to life. I hope you’ll enjoy the series!
Nagase also performs the ending theme, “No Matter the World”, which was written for the series and marks her first solo vocal performance. The lyrics are by UiNA, with composition and arrangement by Tatsuya Kato. She shared her impressions of the song.
‘Nameless prayers lie hidden within the cycle of life. The flame of rebirth will always illuminate the darkness.’ These words, quiet yet filled with an unmistakable intensity, captured my heart in an instant. Merciless and cruel. And yet, still so precious. I sang this song while holding these conflicting emotions close to my heart. I hope everyone will experience the world of Spirit Circle and its music for themselves.
The Spirit Circle anime begins airing and streaming in December 2026. More information is available on the official Japanese website.
