MangaGamer has released the HD remaster of Innocent Grey’s visual novel Cartagra on Steam, bringing the title back with updated presentation and the included epilogue, Sacrament. Developed by Innocent Grey, the studio also known for Kara no Shojo, Cartagra is set several years after the end of the war in Showa era Japan. The story follows Takashiro Shugo, a retired police officer travelling alone by train to Zushi after being asked by his former boss, Arishima Kazuma, to investigate the disappearance of a wealthy family’s daughter.
That investigation leads Shugo to the Kozuki residence, where the missing woman’s family becomes the centre of a case that soon appears to connect with the Ueno Serial Murder Case. Upon arriving, Shugo encounters Kozuki Kazuna, whose appearance is identical to that of his former lover and her twin sister, Kozuki Yura. Kazuna asks Shugo to search for her missing sister, while their father, Kozuki Keiichiro, responds to the situation with a far more final view.
“My daughter is already dead.”
From there, Cartagra follows a mystery set around Ueno, with the game’s story moving between fiction, reality and the connections between its central cases.
The HD remaster features branching choices and multiple endings, with player decisions influencing the direction of Shugo’s investigation and the fates of the characters involved. As Shugo looks further into both the Ueno Serial Murder Case and the Kozuki Disappearance Case, the two incidents begin to reveal unexpected links.
Cartagra is available with English and Simplified Chinese text, alongside the original Japanese voice acting. MangaGamer has also confirmed compatibility with Steam Deck and touch screen devices.
