Fallout 76 has received its 68th free update, with Infestations now available across supported platforms. The new update changes familiar outdoor areas across Appalachia into dynamic combat zones, giving players a reason to return to existing locations with new threats, shifting enemy factions and exclusive Four-Star Legendary rewards.
Infestations can appear across 40 locations in regions such as The Forest, Savage Divide, Ash Heap, The Mire, Toxic Valley and Cranberry Bog. When an area is taken over, its normal enemies are replaced by a single hostile faction, eventually leading to an elite boss encounter.
Multiple Infestations can be active at the same time, creating more unpredictable conditions across the Wasteland. The encounters scale to player level and can be completed solo, though the update is designed to work especially well when played with a team.
Clearing an Infestation will provide guaranteed rewards, with bosses able to drop Four-Star Legendary weapons or armour. These items can include mods exclusive to Infestations. Players can also earn caps, chems, bobbleheads, magazines and other loot from successful clears.
To mark the update’s launch, the team is also running the P.R.O.T.E.C.T Protocol community challenge, alongside a week of free in-game rewards from 8 June to 16 June AEST. A Fallout 1st Free Trial week will also be available from 9 June to 16 June AEST.
Fallout 76: Infestations is available now on all supported versions of the game: PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Fallout 76 is also available through Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra.
