Idea Factory International has confirmed that Death end re;Quest: Code Z, the latest title in the Death end re;Quest series, will be launching later this year on the PC via Steam. This is in addition to previously announced plans to release the game physically for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in North America on 13 May 2025, and digitally in Europe on the same day.
Death end re;Quest: Code Z continues the franchise’s blend of turn-based RPG and roguelike elements, with a narrative crafted by Corpse Party writer Makoto Kedouin. The story follows Sayaka Hiwatari, a new protagonist navigating the unstable World DE-1.5 – a world created as a peaceful replica of the original, but now threatened by mysterious lookalikes of past heroes.
Players will explore the treacherous “Strain Area,” a series of procedurally-generated dungeons filled with monsters, traps, and the ever-present risk of brutal narrative deaths known as Death Ends. These events are intensified through the return of Double Death Ends, accompanied by graphic illustrations from series artist Kei Nanameda.
Combat in the Strain Area features a turn-based system where each player action prompts an enemy response, encouraging strategic movement and planning. Success depends on advancing through dungeon levels, defeating powerful bosses, and rescuing allies. Outside the dungeons, players can regroup in their home base to manage inventory, upgrade weapons at the Night Owl Café, and interact with other characters to uncover new story elements.
Death end re;Quest: Code Z marks the third mainline entry in the series, following the original game’s release in 2018 (Japan) and 2019 (international), and Death end re;Quest 2 in 2020.
