A television anime adaptation of Aki Akimoto’s romantic comedy Mechanical Marie has been officially announced by Pony Canyon this evening and is set to premiere in Fall 2025 (Spring 2025 for those of us in the southern hemisphere). Alongside the announcement, a teaser visual, teaser trailer, and lead cast details have been released, giving fans their first look at the characters in animated form.
Mechanical Marie follows the story of Marie, a former martial arts prodigy who now works undercover as a “mechanical maid” for Arthur, the heir to a powerful conglomerate who harbours a deep distrust of humanity. While appearing emotionless and mechanical, Marie secretly protects Arthur from frequent assassination attempts—all while concealing the truth that she is, in fact, human. As trust slowly builds between the two, a quiet romance begins to blossom amid the chaos.
Mechanical Marie will be directed by Junji Nishimura, with series composition by Mariko Kunisawa. Character designs are by Yoko Kikuchi, and music will be composed by Yasuharu Takanashi and Johannes Nilsson. The animation is being produced by studios Zero-G and Lieber.
Nao Toyama will voice the titular character, Marie, while Haruki Ishiya will portray Arthur. Both voice actors have shared their thoughts on the project:

The moments when the two let down their guard and show true feelings—it captures the essence of love.

About Arthur
Even though it’s a comedic role, I want to keep Arthur’s core grounded. He has a cool side but also shows adorable sides, especially around Marie. He’s full of emotion, changing expressions quickly throughout the episodes. I hope to tap into all my acting range for this role. Personally, I haven’t often played this kind of main character before, so I’m really excited.
