If you have missed the news over the past few days, the United States government has posed a range of very controversial tariffs on products of many countries. With the cost of tariffs ultimately being paid by importers and in turn passed on to consumers, this does raise some genuine questions about the price of gaming hardware and software among everything else impacted by universal and broad tariffs. Say… a brand new gaming console due to launch in early June 2025.
Citing the uncertainty, GameStop has confirmed that they will not be starting pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States, despite what was originally announced by Nintendo on the announcement date. The statement providing a justification why can be found for your reference below:

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.
GameStop will continue to work closely with Nintendo and provide updates as soon as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for further details.
From the sound of things however, gamers could be paying even more for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States – a suggested retail price point of $449.99 USD already garnering complaints from some.
