During the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 presentation, Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster will both be released on Nintendo’s upcoming system.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is an expanded edition of the 2020 title, originally released for PlayStation platforms and later for PC. This version includes FF7R Episode INTERmission, a side story featuring Wutai ninja Yuffie Kisaragi that runs concurrently with the main game’s events. Players follow former SOLDIER Cloud Strife as he joins the resistance group Avalanche in Midgar, standing against the Shinra Electric Power Company in a battle that evolves into a planet-spanning conflict. This was followed by a subsequent second chapter in the planned trilogy, although a Nintendo Switch 2 release for that has yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster revisits the original Nintendo 3DS RPG with enhanced visuals and newly added minigames. Originally launched in 2012, the title is known for its “Brave & Default” battle system and job mechanics, allowing players to tailor their party strategy. Set in the world of Luxendarc, the story follows four heroes—Agnès Oblige, Tiz Arrior, Edea Lee, and Ringabel—as they journey to restore balance to a world thrown into chaos by a mysterious chasm and dark forces surrounding the elemental crystals. The remaster includes over 20 job classes, updated character artwork by Akihiko Yoshida, and a soundtrack composed by Revo. Players can manipulate turn-based combat pacing and combine job abilities for strategic depth, making it accessible to newcomers while offering nostalgic appeal for returning fans.
Both games will benefit from the Nintendo Switch 2’s upgraded hardware, offering improved textures and visual enhancements on its larger screen.
