2K and Gearbox Software unveiled the first details of Borderlands 4 during The Game Awards 2024, showcasing a trailer that introduces The Timekeeper, a tyrannical ruler whose grip over the dangerous planet of Kairos is threatened by a world-altering catastrophe. Set to release in 2025, Borderlands 4 promises to deliver the signature action and humour fans of the series have come to expect, alongside significant gameplay and narrative evolutions.
Borderlands 4 is set to feature:
Vault Hunters and Customisation: Players will control a new cast of Vault Hunters, each with the most extensive skill trees in the series, allowing for deeper customisation and diverse builds.
Exploration and Combat: Set on Kairos, pitched as the largest and most dynamic world in the franchise, players will encounter events, side missions, and new traversal mechanics to enhance exploration and combat.
Weapons and Loot: True to its looter-shooter roots, Borderlands 4 boasts billions of weapon combinations and the most expansive loot system in the series to date.
Co-op Gameplay: Players can team up with up to three others for co-op gameplay or tackle the campaign solo.
Speaking on the game, Gearbox Software’s Randy Pitchford shared:
Borderlands 4 is about freedom and being badass. This is by far the biggest and most insane world we’ve ever made – it’s overloaded with jerkface ratnozzle scrote monsters that need to be put down with the most over-the-top hardcore nuts op guns and loot in any game ever. Oh, and the story also seriously kicks ass!
Borderlands 4 is set to launch in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
