The comedy series Gag Manga Biyori is set to return to screens across Japan (and presumably official streaming platforms internationally) in April 2025 with its fifth season in development, Gag Manga Biyori GO. This new installment celebrates the 25th anniversary of the manga by Kosuke Masuda and features production by Studio DEEN, known for their work on earlier seasons as well as anime titles like Yakuza Finance and Twilight Out of Focus.
The series sets out to bring back its unique blend of surreal humor and quirky characters, including Shotoku Taishi, Matsuo Basho, and Usami-chan. A teaser visual has been revealed (available on the left), and additional updates are expected during the “Masuda Kosuke Gekijo Gag Manga Biyori GB” stage event at Jump Festa 2025.
The anime will feature a familiar voice cast, including Takeshi Maeda as Shotoku Taishi and Kumakichi-kun, Eiji Takemoto as Onono Imoko, and Rei Naito as Matsuo Basho. In addition to the animation talent of Studio DEEN, the season will be directed by Akitaro Daichi with music by Harukichi Yamamoto,
Broadcast and global streaming platform details will be announced at a later date.
