EastAsiaSoft has announced that Xuan Yuan Sword 7, an action RPG inspired by Chinese legends and mythology, will be available on the Nintendo Switch eShop starting May 30th. Digital pre-orders are now open with a 10% discount. This follow’s the game’s earlier release on the PC and PlayStation 4 back in 2020/2021.
This latest instalment in the series, which marks its 33rd year, is a standalone game in the series, and has been developed through a collaboration between Eastasiasoft Limited, Softstar Entertainment Inc., and DOMO Studio. The porting was managed by Eastasiasoft Limited alongside Catness Game Studios, undergoing extensive optimisation to enhance its visual presentation on the platform.
The game is priced at US$39.99, €39.99, £34.99, 4800 JPY, and 288 HKD (or other local equivalent) on the Nintendo eShop. A physical edition will also be available on the same week of launch, encompassing both standard and limited editions, the latter featuring a manual, soundtrack CD, art book, and a numbered certificate in a collector’s box. These can be pre-ordered through the online retailer Playasia (Standard | Limited).
Xuan Yuan Sword 7 is an action RPG which seeks to provide real-time action combat and a deeply cinematic narrative. Set against the backdrop of ancient China, the game weaves a tapestry of the region’s historical landscape, civilization, and culture, enriched with a layer of mythical legends. This setting contrasts sharply with anachronistic technological elements, creating a world that is at once both familiar and enigmatic, where science and spirituality coexist.
In the game, players take on the role of Taishi Zhao, a composed and steadfast swordsman who is thrust into a quest to protect his family and unravel the mysteries behind a devastating blight threatening China. The storyline, deeply entrenched in Chinese history and mythology, presents a chaotic realm under the control of a new Xin Dynasty during the tumultuous final years of the Western Han period. As the narrative unfolds, players will control the mystical Elysium Scroll, which allows them to manipulate time, absorb monsters, and alter their environment, while upgrading their skills and equipment to navigate a country ravaged by war and famine.
