Cities: Skylines II Expands with Beach Properties Pack and Modding Tools Release

While Cities: Skylines was and remains a beloved city simulation game, when released October 2023, its successor Cities: Skylines II was met with a much cooler reception given performance issues, bugs and more. But, developer Colossal Order and publisher Paradox Interactive are keeping on with the releases – both in terms of base game functionality, and maybe a little more tumultuously, paid post-launch DLC content.

The first post-launch asset pack for Cities: Skylines II, titled Beach Properties is set to go live on 25 March 2024, as either a separate purchase of $9.99/£8.49/€9.99 (or local equivalent) or as part of the Waterfronts Expansion Pass or Ultimate Edition of the game. This content is set to include:

Waterfront Zone
A new residential zoning option dedicated to waterfront buildings allows you to redefine your city’s coastline.

Beach Properties
From luxurious waterfront mansions to charming beachside cottages, each theme has an addition of growable residential buildings, waiting to populate your new waterfront zone.

Signature Waterfront Buildings
Tailored to fit into European or North American architectural themes, these signature buildings are crafted to highlight your city’s beachfronts.

70 New Assets
This includes 10x North American residential buildings with 3 levels (x30 Assets), 10x European residential buildings with 3x levels (x30 Assets), 6x Signature Buildings and 4x new trees.

The launch of this pack also conicides with the release of Cities: Skylines II’s first phase of in-game modding capabilities, which seek to enhance the gameplay experience by enabling players to create, share, and utilize mods directly within the game. From 25 March, players will have the opportunity to engage with mods through the Cities: Skylines II Modding Beta. An in-game editor will be introduced, facilitating the creation and implementation of map or code mods. Leveraging the Paradox Mods platform, these modifications can be played locally and shared on a global scale. The platform also offers features for discovering, curating, and organizing mods into Playsets for easy access. Further modding tools, including asset modding options, are expected to be released later in the year.

Commenting on the mod functionality, Mariina Hallikainen, CEO of Colossal Order added:

Modding is part of the lifeblood of Cities: Skylines, and starting our Modding Beta is going to be a transformative step for Cities: Skylines II. The creativity and feedback from our players are what makes this community what it is. We can’t wait to see how everyone puts these tools to use, and work alongside them to make sure everyone is empowered to make the cities of their dreams.

Additionally, the Deluxe Relax Station, a new in-game radio channel, will be launched simultaneously, featuring a new host and an hour of new music. It will be available for $4.99/£4.49/€4.99 (or local equivalent), or as part of the Waterfronts Expansion Pass or Ultimate Edition.
