Third time’s the charm as they say
and I am excited!
After illness and the whole COVID-19 pandemic, it has been confirmed that Penn & Teller will be magicking themselves to Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to perform their Las Vegas live show throughout the month of June 2022. This will be the iconic duos first ever Australian tour, which is mind-boggling to think of considering just how long they have been entertaining their fans around the world, with both their magical talents and appearances on multiple television shows.
The lifelong friends, with a career together spanning almost half a century, have redefined popular magic with their unusual mix of mind-blowing magic tricks, comedy and ‘blunders’. The pair are stars of the acclaimed Showtime series Penn & Teller: BS!, which received 13 Emmy nominations and was the longest-running series in the history of the network (Worth a watch if you can find a copy of the show). Their highly anticipated return to Broadway was the highest-grossing non-musical on Broadway for its entire six-week run. True pop culture stalwarts, the duo has performed in hit television shows, including Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family and The Simpsons, and they share a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. More recently they have starred in their TV show Penn & Teller: Fool Us, which challenges up-and-coming and veteran magicians to try and fool Penn & Teller.
Their Australian Tour will commence at Sydney Opera House’s Joan Sutherland Theatre from 1-11 June 2022 (Tickets available here), followed by a 5-day season in Arts Centre Melbourne’s Hamer Hall from 14-18 June 2022 (Tickets available here), and concluding with a run from 22 June – 3 July 2022 (Tickets available here).
Of course, this is still several months away and everything around the ongoing pandemic could throw things into a spin, but with international borders now open and Governments seemingly more hesitant to put whole communities into lockdown – third time may be the charm for the duo.
I just love Australia. I learned to SCUBA dive in Cairns. I’ve eaten gelato at Circular Quay and enjoyed Shakespeare at the Opera House. I’ve scouted an underwater TV special near Melbourne, I’ve been bug-eyed at MONA and some of my dearest friends live there so it’s about bloody time we brought our show down under, don’t you think? It’s once in a lifetime! See you in winter! … What? It’s winter in June??
