Been waiting for the next major release from ATLUS and their ATLUS West division since their successful launch of Shin Megami Tensei V on the Nintendo Switch? You need only cast your gaze to August 2022, with the company confirming that Soul Hackers 2 will be launching on 26 August 2022. This will serve as their first major new-generation console game, bringing it to both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S natively, alongside the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
As its title implies, Soul Hackers 2 is a sequel more than two decades in the making. Shin Megami Tensei: Soul Hackers was originally released exclusively in Japan on the Sega Saturn (1997) and PlayStation 1 (1999). It took more than a decade and a half for its release on the Nintendo Switch in North America and PAL regions. Given the recent news around the Nintendo 3DS, it will be interesting if they intend on making the original game available for players on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and the PC.
Soul Hackers 2 is being produced and directed by Eiji Ishida and Mitsuru Hirata, other featured staff includes music composed by MONACA, character designs by Shirow Miwa and Production Manager Shinjiro Takata. Information is limited on the game’s narrative outside of the teaser trailer (above) and the following story outline:
In a war between devil summoners, it is up to Ringo and her team to decrypt destiny and save the world from an apocalypse.
With release day looming, expect to hear more about Soul Hackers 2 in the coming weeks and months.
