While the original quadrilogy of .hack// video games were release on the PlayStation 2 in Australia and New Zealand, the .hack//G.U trilogy which followed it never received the same degree of attention. More than a decade after the release of .hack//G.U. Vol.1//Rebirth, Bandai Namco Entertainment have confirmed they will be offering a “definitive” experience for both fans and newcomers to the series – titled .hack//G.U. LAST RECODE.
.hack//G.U. Last Recode features the three .hack//G.U. action RPG titles (Rebird, Reminisce and Redemption) in one bundle. These aren’t straight ports; featuring 1080p visuals (w/ 16:9 widescreen picture and 60fps frame rate), gameplay balance changes and additional features including a Cheat Mode which will allow anyone to give their characters full stats.
.hack//G.U. is part of the wider .hack series, which over the years has encompassed a number of video games, anime, manga, films, light novels and more. This tale takes place years after the original story, seeing players assume the role of Haseo, as he tracks down a Player Killer named Tri-Edge who killed his friend’s in-game avatar Shino and put her in a coma in real life.
.hack//G.U. LAST RECORD will be released on the PlayStation 4 physically and digitally, and the PC digitally via Steam, from late 2017. Expect to hear more about this enhanced port in the coming months.
