While it was Madman Entertainment that showcased their range of anime films during last months Gold Coast Film Festival, it is Hanabee Entertainment that is bringing such films to The Melbourne International Film Festival later this year. The publisher this afternoon announced their acquisition of the rights to Patema Inverted, which was first screened in Japan in late-2013.
While no set screening times have been announced, Hanabee have confirmed that the director Yasuhiro Yoshiura himself will be attending the festival as a special guest, marking his first visit to the country. Events surrounding the film and Mr. Yoshiura’s attendance is part of MIFF’s Next Gen program. Next Gen is an initiative to enrich the cinema experience for younger viewers, where films are selected for their diversity, innovation and high quality, as well as for being relevant and accessible to audiences of all ages.
Film Synopsis

The coming of age sci-fi epic elevated to the global stage following its release in film festivals around the world, winning both the Judges Award and the Audience award at the Scotland Loves Anime Festival. Patema Inverted has since been a part of the Official Selection in Film Festivals and theatres all over the world, including North America, Tokyo, Abu Dhabi, Spain and UK to mention a few, the film will finally premiere to eager audiences in Australia through the 2014 Melbourne International Film Festival.
