Opening packs of trading cards is the whole point of Rip It! Card Collector, which is now out on Steam. The relaxing card-collecting incremental game comes from Cybernetic Walrus, the studio behind Roadside Research, and launches shortly after its demo ranked among the Top 50 most-played games during Steam Next Fest.
The goal is to fill a binder with 1,809 hand-drawn cards, which range from standard pulls to rare variants, foils, metallics and special promos. Players open packs, sort what they get, slot cards into the binder and sell any duplicates for money. Placing cards in the binder also earns XP and Gadget Points.
Those Gadget Points can be spent on gadgets and upgrades for a retro-futuristic workstation, gradually turning a hand-cranked setup into a fully automated one. One upgrade, for example, lets players load entire cases into the Rip Rig and watch cards pour out ready to be sorted. Players who prefer a hands-on approach can still slot cards in one at a time.
There are no timers, so collecting can be done at whatever pace suits the player, with a retro radio playing in the background. For anyone struggling to find a particular card, the Black Market offers another way to complete the collection.
