Zoo builders can now look beyond solid ground. Planet Zoo 2, the sequel to Frontier Developments’ zoo management game Planet Zoo, has released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, introducing aquatic and flying species to the series for the first time.
That addition comes with two new types of exhibit. Players can now build fully customisable aquariums and aviaries to house marine and airborne animals, joining more traditional habitats across a roster of more than 130 species. Each animal has its own needs, and players are tasked with designing habitats and exhibits based on the animals’ natural environments. Frontier describes the game’s animals as the most realistic in the series so far, pointing to more detailed fur, feathers and scales as well as authentic behaviours.
The sequel also moves its focus beyond the zoo gates. Players take on the role of the newest Conservation Coordinator for the Fauna and Ecosystems Network (FEN), with conservation work now extending to projects around the world. Wildlife Reserves form a central part of this, with players restoring these areas and raising animals to release into healthy ecosystems.
Across Career, Franchise and Sandbox modes, players can grow a worldwide network of zoos and reserves. Multiplayer features include trading animals with other players and contributing to shared community goals. A new Planet Hub brings that network together in one overview, while a first-person camera allows players to walk through their own zoos and reserves, as well as creations shared by other players.
