Culdcept BEGINS is making the move to PC. Neos Corporation, a subsidiary of Tecmira Holdings, has announced that the Steam version of the board and card game hybrid will launch on 28 October 2026, and players can try it first during Steam Next Fest.
The Culdcept series was created by Omiya Soft and debuted in 1997, combining board game and card game mechanics. Culdcept BEGINS is the first new entry in more than a decade, keeping that core formula while updating the visuals, interface and world setting. It launched on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on 16 July 2026.
The Steam version adds several new features that were not part of the Switch release. Three new battle maps have been included, each with its own characteristics to vary the strategy. Ten new Book Cover designs are available for players’ in-game decks, known as Books, featuring creatures picked by the development team as well as designs based on the game’s maps. The Card Library also gains a read-aloud feature that speaks the names of creatures, spells and other cards.
Several quality-of-life changes have been made as well. Character positions are easier to see in Map Mode during battles, card selection is smoother in the Information screen, and movement directions at route junctions are clearer. All of these additions will also come to the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions as a free update at a later date, with timing to be announced.
Players who buy the game on Steam by 28 October 2026 can download four Early Purchase Bonus items for free:
- Dragon-Eyed Zeneth, a long-running series character, newly illustrated by Culdcept BEGINS lead designer Satoshi Matsuura and usable as a COM opponent and player avatar
- Najaran, the protagonist of the Culdcept manga, also newly illustrated by Matsuura and usable as a COM opponent and player avatar
- A Culdra (1st) Book Cover, featuring the goddess who created the world of Culdcept, using artwork by science-fiction artist Naoyuki Kato that served as the main visual for the original Culdcept
- A Steam-exclusive Onyx Book Cover, featuring the black dragon who fought alongside Origin
The bonuses can be claimed from the Early Purchase Bonus section under Content for this Game on the Steam store page.
A Digital Deluxe Edition will also be sold, bundling the base game with five pieces of digital content. These include a Complete Card Book in PDF format, available in Japanese only, with artwork and details for every card in the game, and a 53-track original soundtrack by Noisycroak. Five PC wallpapers, a collection of in-game voice clips and a font based on the Bavrashka script from the game’s Bavrashka Continent setting round out the package. The voice clips cover 22 system voices and card announcements for the 10 Spell Cards voted most popular on the official X account. Nintendo Switch owners will be able to buy the same content separately as a Digital Content Set, without needing to buy the game again.
