Toy Story: Retro Roundup! And Toy Story 3 Complete Edition Out Now

Three decades after the first Toy Story film, a run of the franchise’s video games has been brought back for modern consoles. Digital Eclipse and Atari have released Toy Story: Retro Roundup!, a collection of classic Toy Story-era games, alongside Toy Story 3 Complete Edition, a remaster of the 2010 game based on the third film. Both are also available together in a physical Double Pack on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.

Toy Story: Retro Roundup! gathers five Toy Story games: Toy Story (1995), Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue! (1999), Toy Story 2 (1999), Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (2000) and Toy Story Racer (2001). A Bug’s Life (1998) is included as a bonus. The games were originally released across PlayStation, SNES, Game Boy and other platforms.

The collection includes a set of modern features. Players can rewind to retry tricky sections, save and load at any point, and use Rex’s Cheat Code to unlock characters, levels and bonus modes such as invincibility and unlimited lives. A Practice Mode offers guided playthroughs, simplified and fully localised How to Play guides have been added, and the games can be played either in an upgraded high-resolution presentation or in their original PlayStation 1 look.

Beyond the games, Retro Roundup! comes packed with archival material. That includes new behind-the-scenes interviews, rare development materials, archival images and insights into both the films and the games, including A Bug’s Life. Six video featurettes look at the franchise’s creative history, featuring Pixar Head of Story Jason Katz, Disney & Pixar Games VP and GM Luigi Priore, TT Games founder Jon Burton and actor Jim Hanks. A music player features soundtracks from every game in the collection, among them an uncompressed, CD-quality version of the original Toy Story game’s soundtrack.

Toy Story 3 Complete Edition marks the first time the 2010 game has been available on modern platforms. It is based on the most complete version of the game, including content that was previously exclusive to PlayStation 3, and adds upgraded visuals, higher resolutions and better performance, with up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second on supported platforms.

The game is best known for its Toy Box Mode, an open-world sandbox set in a Wild West town inspired by Woody’s Roundup. Players can customise the environment and characters and take on non-linear missions to unlock new toys, vehicles and characters from other Pixar films. The Story Mode follows Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie through locations from Andy’s Room to Sunnyside Daycare, with players switching between characters to use their individual abilities. Local co-op is also supported, and the game’s accessible controls and light platforming are designed to offer a low-pressure experience for new players.

Luigi Priore, VP and GM of Disney & Pixar Games, shared his personal connection to the original games and what it means to bring them back:

Toy Story remains one of our most cherished and enduring franchises, and these classic games have continued to be fan-favourites throughout the years. I worked on the original games thirty years ago, and being part of this franchise ever since makes revisiting them now feel especially meaningful. We’re thrilled for a new generation of fans to experience these original games and connect with the world of Toy Story beyond the films.

Atari VP of Games Ethan Stearns spoke about the goal of preserving the games while introducing them to new players:

For 30 years, Toy Story has inspired generations to play, imagine and create memories together. Bringing these games back isn’t just about preserving great classics; it’s about giving fans the chance to relive favourite adventures and introducing a whole new generation to why these games still shine today.

Digital Eclipse Studio Head Mike Mika explained what he feels the games capture about the franchise:

These games capture everything that made Toy Story magical: adventure, imagination, humour and heart. Whether you’re reliving childhood memories or discovering them for the first time, there’s nothing quite like hearing ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’ and being back in Andy’s room. We couldn’t be more excited to finally put these classics back into players’ hands, and to experience the magic of Toy Story all over again.
