Muramasa: Revenant Blades, an updated version of Vanillaware’s side-scrolling action RPG, is set to bring a new localisation, English voiceovers and revised gameplay systems to players when it officially launches on 4 February 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, alongside a global Windows PC launch through Steam.
Drawing on the game’s Wii release in 2009 and PlayStation Vita release in 2013, Revenant Blades brings together original protagonists Momohime and Kisuke with Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru and Rajaki, who were introduced in the Vita version. All six storylines will be available from the beginning, allowing players to choose their preferred order.
Their stories unfold in historical Japan, where rival factions are fighting over swords forged by Senji Muramasa. These weapons offer considerable power but also inflict a madness driven by a thirst for blood. The resulting conflict attracts demons and evil spirits, entangling the six characters in the consequences of the blades’ influence.
The updated release will support resolutions up to 4K, with visual improvements to characters, environments and animations. Changes also include updated controls, new combat and weapon systems, additional modes and gameplay options. Players will have more than 100 swords to forge and dozens of skills to upgrade and customise.
Marvelous Europe has released an extended gameplay showcase featuring nearly 10 minutes of combat and exploration, including the English voiceover and visual updates. The video also reveals new key artwork and box art depicting all six playable characters. Further information about the changes is available in a new PlayStation Blog post.
Physical pre-orders will open soon through participating retailers for all three console platforms. The standard edition has a recommended price of £44.99 or €49.99, while the Deluxe Edition will cost £59.99 or €69.99 and include the game and a collectible art book featuring Vanillaware’s artwork.
