Nippon Ichi Software America (NIS America) has announced GOBBLE, a new hand-painted 2D action platformer from Nippon Ichi Software coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and PC in 2027.
The single-player adventure follows a protagonist searching for their missing family with the help of Scythariel, a demonic bird capable of transforming into a scythe. Combat and traversal are closely connected through Scythariel’s abilities. Players can defeat and consume enemies, with corpses providing resources for special abilities that can be used to cross dangerous areas, uncover hidden locations and continue through the game’s stages.
Health also plays a role in the system. Consuming enemies can restore health, while that same health can then be spent to activate more powerful abilities, requiring players to balance survivability with access to stronger moves. Exploration will be supported by collectibles hidden throughout each stage, giving players additional objectives beyond progressing through the main adventure.
GOBBLE aims to be distinctive in that it represents sound within its hand-painted world. Environmental effects and noises are depicted visually on screen, including rustling leaves and other atmospheric details.
GOBBLE is being developed by Nippon Ichi Software and published by NIS America. Console versions will support English text, while the PC release will include English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese and Korean. The game’s rating is currently pending.
