In attendance at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 over the weekend, Bandai Namco Entertainment revealed new details about Gundam Rogue Orbit, a new timeline for the series which is set to release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam next year. The game forms part of the newly announced RG Project, an initiative connecting Gundam Rogue Orbit with the upcoming anime Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO through a shared setting. Director Kenji Kamiyama and author Toh Enjoe created the project’s worldview, which will be expanded across the anime and game through a new approach for the Gundam series.
While both titles share the same universe, Gundam Rogue Orbit will tell an original story taking place after the events depicted in the anime. Players will take control of a Gundam pilot as humanity continues its decades-long struggle against an unknown extraterrestrial ecosystem. The timeline begins with the arrival of an Autonomous Interstellar Object from another galaxy. The Object delivers three revelations to humanity: Gravity Control, FTL Communication and Cognitive Materialization. These discoveries create an era of rapid prosperity and allow civilisation to spread throughout the solar system.
Less than ten years after its discovery, however, the Object suddenly runs rampant and begins producing an aggressive, self-proliferating ecosystem. Humanity names this new threat the Apocalypse. After fighting the Apocalypse in orbit above Earth for three months, humanity is forced to abandon the planet. The year of Earth’s evacuation becomes A.A. 1, marking the beginning of the After Apocalypse calendar. Gundam Rogue Orbit takes place in A.A. 45, when generations born on the Moon and within space colonies have never experienced a world without the Apocalypse. The game’s story will follow Ray Azumi, a boy who awakens on the lunar surface.
The RG Project will also extend into other parts of the Gundam franchise. An HG 1/144 GUNDAM HELIX Gunpla model kit has been announced as a Bandai Namco Store exclusive, while the Gundam Rogue Orbit Collector’s Edition will include an exclusive HG 1/144 ARK-10 GUNDAM HELIX (EARTH BLUE ver.) model. Gundam Rogue Orbit will also appear in the Gundam Card Game, with a special promotional card featuring the game’s key artwork to be distributed at future events.
