Ahead of its release later this month, Nippon Ichi Software America (NIS America) has put out a demo for Disgaea Mayhem, giving players an early look at the action-focused spin on the long-running strategy series. The demo is available now on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Steam, with the full game due on those same platforms on 23 July.
The demo covers three stages and grants access to all seven weapons found in the finished product, letting players sample the differences between options such as the ranged bow and the heavier axe before committing to a purchase. Each stage pits players against dozens of enemies before capping off with a boss fight, which NIS America suggests should be enough to get a sense of how the game’s action combat handles.
Disgaea Mayhem trades the series’ usual approach for direct control of the fighting. Players take on the role of N.A., a mercenary with a sweet tooth who cuts down monsters for money, working alongside Princess Tichelle, whose appetite for flan drives the arrangement between them. Weapons can be swapped freely across the seven available types, including the sword, gun, fist and axe, each changing how the game is played.
Familiar Disgaea systems remain in place underneath the new format. Players can grind levels, head into the Item World to power up equipment, reincarnate for higher base stats, and pass bills at the Dark Chocolate Assembly, with the studio pitching the usual escalation towards damage numbers in the millions. Classic demons such as the Prinny can also be recruited to fight alongside the player.
Disgaea Mayhem launches on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on 23 July.
