Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco Entertainment used Summer Game Fest 2026 to share a new look at The Blood of Dawnwalker, the studio’s dark fantasy open world action RPG. The game is scheduled to launch on 3 September 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
During the event, Rebel Wolves presented a new gameplay trailer for The Blood of Dawnwalker, alongside a CGI teaser for The Dawnwalker Saga that hints at the broader direction of the series. The CGI teaser moves beyond the medieval setting of the upcoming game, showing Coen in a modern, 21st-century environment. According to the developers, future entries in the Dawnwalker franchise will span centuries, continents and cultures around the world.
The Blood of Dawnwalker itself remains focused on Coen’s origin story. Set entirely in the 14th century, the game follows his conflict with Brencis, the vampire lord of Vale Sangora, a mysterious region in the Carpathian Mountains. Rebel Wolves has confirmed that this first game will tell a self-contained story, with no cliffhangers, unresolved plot threads or time travel elements. Player choices will help shape the adventure, with Coen and Brencis’ feud set to reach a definitive conclusion by the end of The Blood of Dawnwalker.
Game Director and Rebel Wolves Co-Founder Konrad Tomaszkiewicz addressed the modern-day tease and clarified how the studio is approaching the series:
I have a feeling that today’s presentation may have surprised many of you who did not expect Coen’s saga to move into modern times. However, I would like to emphasize that each installment in the series will be a standalone game with its own story, without narrative cliffhangers, unresolved plot threads, or time travel ideas. Since forming Rebel Wolves, we have been very clear that we aim for The Blood of Dawnwalker to be a self-contained story, and now, as we approach the release of the first chapter, we wanted to shed a bit more light on our wider perspective and tease where the story ultimately leads.
Narrative Director Jakub Szamałek also spoke about Coen, the game’s Carpathian setting and how later entries may expand the saga.
I love the potential that lies within Coen, as well as his powers and abilities as a Dawnwalker. His journey begins in a dark 14th-century fantasy world, a setting players deeply enjoy, and while it may feel familiar, the unique Carpathian Mountains setting will allow us to surprise them more than once. The next installments of his saga will bring new stories and new characters, but they will take place in different eras, locations, and cultures. Writing the narrative for projects of this scale is an incredibly satisfying undertaking. And while Coen and Brencis’ conflict will reach its conclusion in The Blood of Dawnwalker, attentive players will certainly come across breadcrumbs related to the overarching plot spanning the saga. I would love to share more, but for now, let’s wait for September 3, the release of the game.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is the first game from Rebel Wolves. It is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
