Ubisoft has released Claws of Awaji, the first expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, macOS and PC via the Epic Games Store, Steam, the Ubisoft Store on Windows PC, and Amazon Luna. The add on is free for players who pre ordered the base game, is available separately for $37.95 AUD, and is included with a Ubisoft+ subscription.
Developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux, Claws of Awaji aims to add more than 10 hours of content with a new region and storyline that continues the journeys of Naoe and Yasuke. The expansion takes place after the events of the base game and requires completion of the main story before it can be accessed.
The narrative begins with Naoe traveling to Awaji in pursuit of a mysterious shinobi. Joined by Yasuke, she faces the Sanzoku Ippa, a faction that threatens the island’s stability. Players will explore cities and maritime landscapes while contending with ambushes and traps that signal the pair are not welcome.
New gameplay options include additional skills, weapon abilities, armor and gear for both protagonists, with all items carrying back into the main game. Awaji also introduces new enemy types and boss encounters that are designed to provide a higher degree of challenge.
At launch, all Shadows players can unlock a new weapon for Naoe, the Bo Staff, via a free in game quest. The Bo emphasizes speed and flowing combos that strike multiple foes. Owners of Claws of Awaji can find Legendary Bo staves on Awaji Island that feature unique engravings available only in the expansion.
