Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, the latest entry in the long-running fantasy RPG-life simulation series, is now available on Nintendo Switch, Windows PC via Steam, and features as part of the launch lineup for the Nintendo Switch 2.
This newest title sees the series venture eastward for the first time, introducing players to the land of Azuma, a region rich in cultural inspiration from Japan and reeling from the effects of a cataclysm known as the Celestial Collapse. Players take on the role of an Earth Dancer, a protagonist bonded with a dragon, tasked with restoring balance and vitality to a land in decline.
Set against a backdrop of seasonal villages and crumbling natural wonders, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma seeks to blend traditional farming and relationship-building gameplay with an expanded combat system and town restoration mechanics. Players can choose between two protagonists, each offering a distinct perspective on the narrative, and form bonds with villagers, some of whom can be romanced or recruited into battle.
The title builds on its predecessors by introducing new mechanics and features. Players can wield new weapons such as bows and talismans, and use the mystical power of dance to purify corrupted lands. The expanded farming system allows for entire villages to be rebuilt, rather than just tending crops, adding strategic elements to settlement development. Each of Azuma’s villages is inspired by traditional Japanese design and tied to a different season, offering distinct festivals, events, and characters.
The game is available in multiple formats and editions. On Nintendo Switch, physical copies are offered in both a standard edition (€59.99) and a Limited Edition (€99.99), the latter including a soundtrack, art book, themed merchandise, and several downloadable content (DLC) packs. A version tailored for Nintendo Switch 2 will be available at launch for €69.99, with a €10 upgrade option for those who already own the Switch version. Digital editions on the Nintendo eShop include a standard edition (€59.99), a Digital Deluxe Edition (€69.98) that includes two DLC packs, and a Super Digital Deluxe Edition (€79.98), which adds a digital soundtrack and art book. These three editions are also available on Windows PC via Steam.
In addition to the main game, several standalone DLC packs are available at launch. These include the Rune Factory 4 Hero Outfit Bundle (€2.99), the Rune Factory 4 Bachelorette Outfit Bundle (€7.99), the Digital Deluxe DLC Set (€9.99) which adds new story content and cosmetic items, and the Super Digital Deluxe DLC Set (€19.99), which further includes a digital soundtrack and art book. A free Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin collaboration DLC is also available.
