Spike Chunsoft has unveiled new information about No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES, the latest instalment in their detective adventure series. Launching on 25 July 2025 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, the title continues the mystery-laden journey of Kaname Date with added gameplay mechanics and a focus on puzzle-solving escape segments.
One of the key additions in this entry is the introduction of the “Escape” gameplay mode. In these segments, players take on the role of Iris Sagan – also known as internet idol A-set – who finds herself trapped in a locked room. As the story unfolds, Ota Matsushita, Iris’s fan and friend, becomes a second playable character in these sections. Although separated, Iris and Ota can assist each other by exchanging crucial information and items, with players alternating between the two to solve puzzles and uncover a way out.
The game is set after the events of the original AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES and incorporates gameplay mechanics introduced in the sequel, nirvanA Initiative. These include:
- Wink Psync: A streamlined version of Psyncing used during investigations, allowing players to glimpse a subject’s inner thoughts or concealed secrets when traditional dialogue fails.
- Somnium Segments: Players dive into the dream worlds of individuals connected to a case. These dreamscapes follow specific “Key Rules”, which must be deciphered through experimentation to reveal the truth.
Characters from earlier titles in the series are also set to return. Among them are:
- Ota Matsushita (voiced by Zach Aguilar / Japanese: Natsumi Fujiwara), who has transitioned from being unemployed to managing his family’s restaurant, Matsushita Diner.
- Mizuki Date (voiced by Corina Boettger / Japanese: Tomoyo Kurosawa), a sixth-grader with superhuman strength and the president of Lemniscate, Iris’s talent agency. She was adopted by Date after a previous incident.
- Kuruto Ryuki (voiced by Stephen Fu / Japanese: Atsushi Tamaru), a cool-headed ABIS investigator introduced in AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative.
- Tama (voiced by Anairis Quiñones / Japanese: Ai Kakuma), Ryuki’s AI-Ball companion.
- Moma Kumakura (voiced by Kaiji Tang / Japanese: Wataru Takagi), leader of the Kumakura Family, who balances underworld ties with a fervent, if secret, admiration for Iris.
With a Nintendo Switch 2 version also on offer, Spike Chunsoft has confirmed that this version of the game will benefit from faster loading times, improved visuals, and mouse control support. The physical edition for this platform will be distributed via Game-Key Card and requires an internet connection for the initial download, along with at least 10GB of free storage.
