SelectaPlay and developer Hungry Pixel have released a free demo for NetherWorld, their upcoming 2D action-adventure game set in a chaotic and unconventional world of pixel art and absurdity. The demo is now accessible on both Nintendo Switch and PC, giving players an early look at the title ahead of its full release later this year.
In NetherWorld, players assume the role of Medoo, a heartbroken jellyfish whose life has unravelled into a spiral of violence, alcohol, and increasingly bizarre encounters. Recently dumped and dealing with his feelings through bar fights and vodka, Medoo explores a dark and eccentric underworld populated by suspicious and hostile characters.
If you couldn’t already tell, the game’s narrative aims to lean into surrealism and black humour, featuring interactions with a variety of morally ambiguous characters, including cultists, strippers, and sociopaths. Players can expect a mix of dialogue-driven moments and chaotic gameplay sequences.
Promoted features of NetherWorld include:
- Narrative-focused exploration, with storylines involving characters who often blur the lines between friend and foe.
- Mini-games such as drunken boxing matches, bullet-dodging segments, and roguelike dungeon crawls.
- Boss battles that require players to utilise a variety of weapons—or simply brute force and determination—to overcome grotesque adversaries.
