Not subject to any specific console exclusivity following Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda Softworks in recent years, Bethesda Softworks and developer id Software has released DOOM: The Dark Ages, the latest entry in the long-running DOOM franchise, worldwide on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. This chapter serves as a single-player prequel to DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal, offering players a new chapter in the story of the DOOM Slayer.
This instalment introduces a combat system that builds on previous titles, incorporating new abilities and weapons. It includes a range of gameplay scenarios, such as aerial segments involving a Mecha Dragon and large-scale encounters using an Atlan mech. You can read more about the game in my comprehensive review of it HERE.
In addition to being available digitally and physically as a standalone purchase, you are also able to access DOOM: The Dark Ages via the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscription service. The title also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing players to switch between Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC without additional purchase.
