Indie developer Unknown X has announced that Marisa of Liartop Mountain, a digital tabletop adventure RPG inspired by classic gamebooks, will release on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch on 18 September 2025.
Set in the world of Touhou Project, the game begins with the sudden disappearance of Marisa Kirisame. Players take on the role of Shrine Maiden Reimu Hakurei, who sets off across the realm of Gensokyo in search of clues. The story unfolds across five chapters, presented in the style of a living storybook, with a branching narrative shaped by dice rolls and player decisions.
Throughout the adventure, Reimu is joined by four familiar figures from the Scarlet Devil Mansion – Remilia Scarlet, Flandre Scarlet, Sakuya Izayoi, and Patchouli Knowledge – each offering guidance and commentary on Reimu’s actions. Whether their advice is followed or ignored remains up to the player.
Marisa of Liartop Mountain features a range of surreal locations, including magical libraries, golden deserts, and eerie circuses. Players must choose their paths carefully, encountering enemies and dilemmas that can lead to multiple possible endings.
