To mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities this December, Xbox has announced new initiatives aimed at supporting the Gaming & Disability community. These updates aim to reflect the company’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusivity in gaming.
One of the key updates includes expanded remapping options for the Xbox Adaptive Controller and Elite Series 2 Controller. These features are designed to improve accessibility for players with diverse needs. For example, the new Toggle Holds function allows players to keep a button or port “pressed” without needing to maintain physical pressure, similar to sticky keys on a computer. Additionally, players can now map stick movements to button presses, assigning directional inputs to specific controller buttons for added flexibility.
Another enhancement allows mouse inputs to be mapped to a controller, enabling players to use their controller as a mouse or keyboard for gaming and other PC tasks, such as viewing a game guide or managing non-gaming applications like email or PowerPoint presentations.
The Xbox team together with Activision also spotlighted the Reven pack, now available in World of Warcraft. This in-game content was inspired by a Norwegian player with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
