Spike Chunsoft, Inc. has announced that Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island will be available on Steam starting 11 December 2024 for $39.99 USD or local equivalent.
The Steam version will include all free feature updates from the Nintendo Switch release, providing access to two additional playable characters, Kokatsu Shiren and Tatsumi Shiren, as well as six new dungeons from the start. The paid DLC Plus Pack will also be available, adding characters Koppa and Asuka, along with 10 additional dungeons for expanded gameplay. The game’s digital soundtrack, featuring 109 tracks totalling over 330 minutes, will also be released on Steam. Additionally, the soundtrack will be accessible via Noisycroak Records on platforms such as iTunes and YouTube Music.
Set on Serpentcoil Island, the story follows Shiren and Koppa as they embark on a mission inspired by a vision of a captive girl. The island, rumoured to be a pirate stronghold, is filled with perilous dungeons, hostile monsters, and hidden traps. True to the roguelike genre, players risk losing their equipment and experience if defeated during exploration, adding an extra layer of challenge.
The Nintendo Switch version marked the series’ first mainline release in the West since Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate, which debuted on the PlayStation Vita in 2016 and later on the Nintendo Switch in 2020. While maintaining the series’ classic gameplay, Serpentcoil Island introduced 3D graphics and new mechanics.
