Continuing their work on a range of child-oriented video games, Outright Games, in collaboration with Paramount Game Studios, has announced details about their upcoming video game, The Patrick Star Game. Developed by PHL Collective, this single-player sandbox game is set in the world of SpongeBob SquarePants, focusing on the popular cartoon’s secondary protagonist outside the titular character, Patrick Star. The Patrick Star Game will be released on 4th October 2024, available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
The Patrick Star Game is pitched as a game where players will have the freedom to explore Bikini Bottom in a sandbox-style adventure format. Players will have the ability to engage with nearly any object in their environment to produce physics-defying effects.
The game seeks to offer various missions from familiar characters such as SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, Sandy Cheeks, and Plankton, while taking players to iconic locations from the franchise like Glove World, The Dump, and Demolition Derby.
Completing tasks and collecting Patrick’s favourite jars of mayonnaise will allow players to unlock new outfits. The game will also feature voiceovers from the original SpongeBob SquarePants cast, including Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick Star, Tom Kenny as SpongeBob, and Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs, among others.
Stephanie Malham, Managing Director of Outright Games, expressed excitement about the project, stating:
Furthermore, Doug Rosen, SVP of Games and Emerging Media at Paramount, added:
While I am still a tad sore still about Outright Games’ late-2023 release of Bluey: The Videogame, given some of the surprise hits that SpongeBob Squarepants video game adaptations have occasionally had in the past – maybe it will come as a surprise… maybe not.
