Following a period of PlayStation 5 console exclusivity, Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XVI will be released on PC starting 17 September 2024. The latest numbered flagship of the long-running RPG franchise will be available via both Steam and Epic Games store digital distribution platforms.
Alongside the release, a free demo of the game is now available on both platforms, offering players a chance to experience the opening prologue of the critically acclaimed action RPG. The demo allows players to explore the early stages of Clive Rosfield’s journey, with over two hours of content – leading up to one of the game’s first big cliffhangers. Like the earlier PS5 demo, players have the ability to carry save data over to the full game upon purchase. Additionally, a special “Eikonic Challenge” mode is included, providing access to more Eikonic Abilities for extended gameplay.
Two versions of the game are available for pre-purchase: the Standard Edition, which includes the base game, and the Complete Edition, which also offers the base game and the two DLC chapters—Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide—at a discounted price. The DLC chapters can also be purchased separately or as part of the Final Fantasy XVI Expansion Pass. Players who pre-purchase the game will receive in-game items such as the Brave Blade weapon, Cait Sith Charm, and “Sixteen Bells” Orchestrion Roll.
Final Fantasy XVI takes place in the realm of Valisthea, a dark fantasy world where peace is threatened by the spread of the Blight. The story follows Clive Rosfield, the First Shield of Rosaria, as he seeks revenge against the Dark Eikon, Ifrit, after a tragic event.
