Returning back to the realm of Alfheim Online in a new instalment to the Sword Art Online video game chronology, Bandai Namco Entertainment has confirmed that Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream will be released on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC starting 4 October 2024. This instalment is being developed by Dimps, who last worked on the franchise back in 2018 with Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet.
Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream is pitched as a “large-scale multiplayer focused adventure”, and is set in the fictional VRMMO Alfheim Online. With the Galaxia system having a few issues and ultimately running haywire, it causes a very convenient breach in time and space, creating a new version of this world which mixes timelines. Characters from various arcs of the Sword Art Online series are left to fend for themselves in this uncharted world, creating unexpected alliances even with enemies and reviving memories as they try to set the timeline back on track.
Players can play from a range of different characters popularised by the Sword Art Online light novels, anime and video games, this time featuring support for co-op parties of up to twenty fighters.
