Japan-based developers Skeleton Crew, alongside publisher Devolver Digital, have announced Forestrike, a tactical kung fu game where repetition is crucial for success. The game is set for release in 2025, with an early demo available for those in attendance at BitSummit this weekend.
In Forestrike, players assume the role of Yu, a martial artist on a mission to free the Emperor from the influence of an evil Admiral. Utilizing techniques from one of five unique Masters, each battle in the game presents a puzzle that requires both mental and physical prowess to solve.
Yu faces numerous adversaries on his journey to the capital, often outnumbered but equipped with a unique advantage: the Foresight. This meditative technique allows Yu to mentally simulate battles repeatedly until he discovers a sequence of movements to defeat his enemies.
In the actual combat, losing means starting over, but progress is cumulative. While victories may not always leave Yu unscathed, his strength grows with every step forward. Forestrike is the latest creation from Skeleton Crew, known for their 2021 game Olija.
Promoted features of Forestrike include:
Forewarned is Forearmed
The Foresight, a distinctive game mechanic that lets players experiment without consequences before fighting for real – and win or die trying. Forestrike’s roguelike game loop generates unique runs and encounters every time, so adaptation and improvisation are crucial to progress.
Visceral Kung Fu Combat
Always outnumbered, learn to dispatch mobs of brutal enemies with poise and efficiency using everything at your disposal. Upgrade and customize your movesets with techniques from your chosen Masters to help you outwit your opponents in fierce, puzzle-like battles.
Handcrafted Fantasy
Journey through a visually striking fantasy world inhabited by unique characters, vicious enemies and magical revelations. Intricate pixel art landscapes form an atmospheric backdrop to handcrafted animation and characters.

You can add Forestrike to your Steam wishlist now, with no specific release date outside of a 2025 release window confirmed.
