Following a successful demo launch and ahead of their participation in Steam’s Next Fest on 10 June 2024, Hardball Games has announced that OutRage: Fight Fest, their upcoming 16-player beat-em-up Mega-Brawler, will be officially launching on PC via Steam Early Access starting 16 July 2024.
Set in a parallel reality where a rare serum grants people temporary invulnerability and superhuman strength, a billionaire offers those who take it entry to a showdown, in return for harvesting their “Rage”. In OutRage: Fight Fest, players control one of these enhanced individuals, engaging in battles with up to 15 other players using a variety of weapons and destructible environments to achieve victory. By causing damage, players earn ‘Rage’. As their ‘Rage’ gauge increases, players bulk up, hitting harder and throwing bigger in chaotic smash sessions where everything is a potential weapon.
This early access release represents the culmination of two years of development but should not be considered completely feature-complete. The initial build will include a 16-player ‘Knockout’ mode and a 4×4-player team-mode called ‘Domination’, set in two arenas: Dockyard and Construction Site. With a focus on party-play, players can host custom games and share them with friends. Those looking to hone their skills can practice in a dedicated training mode or against battle bots in time-limited challenges.
Commenting on the upcoming release, Founder of Hardball Games, Jason Avent, shared:
We really wanted to give players the opportunity to party together in a way that was fun and didn’t involve the time sink that most multiplayer games require. We wanted to put them straight at the heart of the battle. Making the game easy to get into and enjoyable in short sessions, but also offer a depth of gameplay to those looking to be more strategic in wrangling the chaos of 16 players, all fighting for victory at once.
More about the game will be showcased during Steam Next Fest on 10 June 2024. Interested gamers can also download the demo, which provides the opportunity to test both 16-player Knockout matches and the team-based Domination mode.
