In a collaboration bridging the virtual skies and cinematic deserts, Microsoft and Asobo Studio have unveiled the Microsoft Flight Simulator – Dune Expansion. This update, now available for download at no additional cost irrespective of how you play the game (Game Pass, Paid Purchase), introduces or re-introduces players to the sweeping landscapes of Arrakis, the central world in the Dune film series. The expansion’s release aligns with the upcoming cinematic release of Dune 2 in the coming weeks.
The Dune Expansion enriches Microsoft Flight Simulator with the addition of the Royal Atreides Ornithopter, allowing players to navigate the iconic aircraft through Arrakis’s deserts and canyons. This marks a notable departure for the series, venturing into fictional territory for the first time. Players are invited to undertake three tutorial missions and six unique activities that include time trials and a high-stakes rescue mission.
Complementing the expansion’s launch, Xbox has introduced the first “floating Xbox Wireless Controller”, a custom Dune-inspired Xbox Series S console and an Ornithopter-shaped dock. As is typical with these unique console designs, they are hard to get one’s hands on, and requires lady luck to be on your side. Fans have the chance to win this set of custom hardware by following Xbox on X and retweeting the official Xbox sweepstakes tweet. You can see more images of this uniquely designed ensemble below:
