All Star Citizen Backers Can Access Alpha 3.19 on PTU

So soon after the lengthy Alpha 3.18 testing period was concluded, developer Cloud Imperium Games has rolled out Star Citizen Alpha 3.19 onto their Public Test Uniform (PTU) for everyone who has backed the game. This is still considered an early release of the latest update to the long-in-development crowdfunded game.

Committed features to Star Citizen Alpha 3.19 include:

  • Lorville Cityscape: Reworking the Lorville skyline to better fit the scale of the city and its distinctive buildings.
  • New Player Experience: An initiative for improving the initial (first 30 minutes) gameplay experience, which will help players understand the context of the world and introduce them to some of Star Citizen’s basic features. This update focuses on the experience in Area 18 and Baijini Point.
  • New Missions – Salvage Contracts: With more civilian access to salvage ships, contract brokers are offering salvage jobs for derelicts around Lagrange Points around Stanton. These brokers charge a fee for their services so this will require some buy-in, but the contractors are free to keep any salvaged material for resale.
  • New Missions – Ghost Hollow PvP Mission: Adding a new mission type to the Ghost Hollow point of interest in the Stanton system. Making use of the comm-array as well as AI nav-mesh, this mission type will create PVP encounters where players will need to fight for control over terminals for a chance at big credit payouts.
  • Tractor Beam – Attach and Detach: This iteration of the tractor beam gameplay will add functionality to the tractor beam attachment of the multitool, allowing it to detach and attach items from ship itemPorts. This functionality can either be used for component exchange, replacement or restocking (rockets) or to scavenge other ships.
  • RSI Lynx: Building, implementing, and balancing RSI’s planetary rover, the Lynx, as a game-ready vehicle.

Maybe not the most exciting Alpha test, especially with all the bells-and-whistles introduced in the 3.18 Alpha. However, it is great to see them finally incorporate a new player experience again.
