Continuing to publish video game adaptations of Reki Kawahara’s popular Sword Art Online multimedia franchise, Bandai Namco Entertainment has confirmed plans to release Sword Art Online Last Recollection next year. To be made available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC, this will continue the video game canon down a different path to the original light novel and anime works.
Somewhat based on the narrative of Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld, players will follow Kirito and friends once more as they face the threat posed by the Underworld War and the Final Stress Test. The gate to the Dark Territory cracks open, ready to unleash its terror upon the Human Realm. But while this may sound familiar at first, a mysterious Dark Knight named Dorothy flies in with a mission for Kirito and his friends – setting them off on a different course.
As you would expect, players can expect to see many characters from the broad Sword Art Online chronology make an appearance, perhaps for the final time, with Sword Art Online Last Recollection being pitched as a “culmination of the Sword Art Online game series”.
