A Look at the Sound of Adventure in Starfield

The first major Xbox console (and PC) exclusive game to launch following Bethesda Softworks’ acquisition by Microsoft last year, Starfield, is due to launch later this year. Available on the Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC starting 11 November 2022, the game is slated to be a sci-fi action RPG, and the first new Bethesda intellectual property developed in some time. Providing small peeks into the game and its development, the studio has been releasing Into the Starfield, a video series which looks at different aspects of Starfield and the team making the different elements come together.

On the third episode of Into the Starfield, released today, we follow Bethesda Game Studios’ audio director Mark Lampert and composer Inon Zur, as they talk about the audio work going into Starfield. Listen as they discuss Lampert and Zur’s artistic process, how the score affects a player’s experience and the search for answers that is at the heart of Starfield’s music.

But again, talk and previews are one thing… will the music live up to the high expectations set by other games in 2022 alone? Time will tell.

Starfield is the most ambitious project I’ve ever worked on. It’s a vast  game about a vast place, but more than anything else it’s bravely asking big questions—philosophical questions and important questions—that usually people don’t bother or dare to ask.
