Aiming to hit their Q2 2021 release schedule with mere days to complete it, developer Cloud Imperium Games have rolled out Star Citizen Alpha 3.14 out to their NDA-bound Evocati testers. While this typically means that it could be a week or two before it incrementally rolls out to broader public testing audiences, they may be able to hit their tentative release plans.
What does 3.14 have in-store? According to the game’s development roadmap, Star Citizen Alpha 3.14‘s features include (some tentatively, some confirmed):
- The planet Crusader, a gas giant which will be come to the (also newly available) Orison Landing Zone. This will be the fifth major planetside landing point currently available in-game, joining Levski (Delamar), Lorville (Hurston), Area 18 (ArcCorp) and New Babbage (microTech).
- A range of new gameplay features including version 2 of power management, radar, scanning and ping systems, a guidance & control rework for missiles, a missile operator mode and version 2 of the law system which will enable ships to surrender to security rather than be killed.
- The Roberts Space Industries (RSI) Constellation Taurus, making the entire Constellation series flyable in-game
- Canvas sliced ship HUDs
- Version 1 of a new cloud rendering system dubbed ‘Planetary Volumetric Clouds’.
In development by Cloud Imperium Games and their studios across North America and Europe, Star Citizen is being helmed by Wing Commander (1990s) creator Chris Roberts. The game has currently been in a long-term alpha phase with no confirmed release date. Despite this, the studio has raised more than $350 million USD through on-going crowdfunding. Please keep in mind should you decide to purchase towards Star Citizen, that this is an incomplete project and that you are pledging towards an extended crowdfunding campaign with no 100% guarantee of a finished product.
