The next instalment in the NieR franchise is not taking the form of a remake/remaster, a new console game or even a collaborative experience such as YorHA: Dark Apocalypse in Final Fantasy XIV. Instead, we need to head to our smartphones, with NieR Re[in]carnation on iOS and Android. Developed by Applibot, published by Square Enix and under Yoko Taro’s direction, the game recently launched in Japan, and is due to receive a localised worldwide release at some point in the future.
Following Square Enix’s worldwide release of NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 last month, there would clearly be renewed interest in this game. The team behind NieR Re[in]carnation‘s international version earlier today shared a new status update and developer letter from Director Daichi Matsukawa:
Our apologies for the long silence since the last update, but we'd like to share with you the development status regarding the English version of NieR Re[in]carnation.

With the game now released in Japan and localisation purportedly finish, it sounds like we could be seeing NieR Re[in]carnation on the App Store and Google Play storefronts sometime in the near future.
