In addition to the PC, Android and iOS platforms, developer MiHoYo chose to make Genshin Impact a console exclusive for the PlayStation 4. While this is all well and good for those who own a PlayStation 5 kudos of backwards compatibility, performance and visual improvements will only be possible once a native client is published. The developer/publisher has this week confirmed a PlayStation 5 client is in development and shall be available later in 2021.
The PS5 client of Genshin Impact will include many features we have come to expect from a major PS4 –> PS5 transition, including support for 4K resolutions, enhanced textures and improved loading times. Players currently experiencing the world of Teyvat on the PS4 will be able to pick up their journey in the new-generation console, although it does not appear that support for Android, iOS or PC accounts will be introduced yet. Which is a shame, as the PlayStation 4 client handles really well but lacks any form of portability.
Expect to hear more about the Genshin Impact PS5 native client in the coming months. If you haven’t picked up the game yet, check out my initial review of it HERE.
