While you have always been able to enjoy Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X through compatibility with their predecessors, Activision has announced that to mark the franchise’s 25th Anniversary, native versions for each console (and the Nintendo Switch) will be published on 12 March 2021. For those unaware what Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is, it is a proper sequel to the original trilogy of games created in the 90s by Naughty Dog, which were initially followed up by a series of unnumbered spin-off action-platformer games.
According to Activision, “Developer Toys for Bob has been hard at work to bring Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time to new platforms”. With the jump in a console generation to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, players should expect the game to run in 4K with 60 FPS, and quicker loading times to boot. This updated release will also be made available freely to anyone who owns the game on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, provided that a) you do not reside in Japan, b) that you upgrade on the same platform and c) that should you own a disc version of it, that the new-gen console you own is not a disc-less variety.
For those on the PlayStation 5, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will support some of the consoles unique functionality. This includes support for the DualSense Wireless Controllers’ adaptive triggers and the PlayStation 5 Activity Cards.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for $99.99 AUD / $109.95 NZD or local equivalent. The game will be cheaper on the Nintendo Switch, priced at just $69.95 AUD / $79.95 NZD or local equivalent. A PC version is also scheduled to release later this year via Battle.net.
