Sony Postpone PlayStation 5 Livestream to “Allow More Important Voices to be Heard”

-

In a simple but very appropriate and reasonable statement made to their social media platforms in recent hours, Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that their PlayStation 5 oriented livestream planned to go ahead on Thursday (Friday in ANZ time) has been postponed. The justification for this postponement is that they “do not feel that right now is the time for celebration” and that they “want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard”.

This announcement follows them, mere hours earlier, sharing the following post denouncing the racism and violence shown against the Black community (#BlackLivesMatter), which is an ongoing and systemic issue in many countries and has escalated in recent weeks following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis by police officers.

A new date for the livestream has yet to be confirmed.
