Unless it is an adaptation of a major media franchise with a wide-spread fanbase such as Dragon Ball Z or Naruto, it is not every day we see a Japanese video game adaptation of an anime released into English. But thanks to Spike Chunsoft, we will be seeing Re:ZERO − Starting Life in Another World: The Prophecy of the Throne (Re:ゼロから始める異世界生活 偽りの王選候補) be made available in dual-audio (English and Japanese) in Winter (Summer in the Southern Hemisphere) for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC.
Developed by Chime Corporation, this is a tactical adventure game which follows protagonist Subaru Natsuki who finds himself in a strange, new world with an ability to reset time and faced with royal conflicts. One month after Subaru’s new life in another world began, an emissary sent by the royal castle suddenly appears with news that the royal selection has been postponed, but offers no reason as to why.
The postponement of this grand event that decides the next ruler of the Kingdom of Lugunica stirs Subaru and his friends into action. They return to the royal capital only to find that a sixth candidate has claimed their stake for the throne. But the Dragon Stone prophesizes that only five candidates would be chosen. With one candidate being an imposter, suspicions are immediately cast toward one woman in particular: Emilia. What answers lie beyond the mysterious web of assassinations, betrayal, and conspiracies… well that is for us to find out.
The storyline was developed with supervision by the original light novel author Tappei Nagatsuki, with new characters also designed by original artist Shinichirou Otsuka.
Spike Chunsoft will be offering multiple physical editions on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Those who pre-order the game while stocks last at participating retailers will be eligible for the Day One edition (above), which features original pin artwork featuring Subaru, Rem, and a brand-new character yet to be revealed.
Want to spend even more money? A limited run of Collector’s Editions (above) will be produced. These include the Day One Edition pins, in addition to a full-colour artbook, a SteelBook collector’s display case, an official soundtrack and a Collector’s Edition outerbox. Nothing special from the standard content one would find in this edition, but still some nice goodies for fans of the series.
The Standard Edition of Re:ZERO − Starting Life in Another World: The Prophecy of the Throne will set you back $59.99 USD or regional equivalent, while the Collector’s Edition will be available for thirty dollars more at $89.99 USD or regional equivalent. Expect to hear more on this game in the coming months.
