I don’t enjoy sport. Therefore I very rarely play games in the genre outside of Nintendo’s once-in-a-generation release of games like Mario Tennis and Mario Golf. Despite this, I broke this trend with the last generation of consoles through Level-5’s releases of Inazuma Eleven on the Nintendo 3DS. Perhaps even if you are not a fan of the genre, the animeification of it might make it more palatable to some.
I say all this because the team at Bandai Namco Entertainment have confirmed the arcade football game Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is headed to the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC platforms this August – or 28 August 2020 to be precise. Based on the Captain Tsubasa anime franchise, they claim players will be able to make “breathtaking saves to gravity-defying shots”, and be able to “experiment the full range of moves that made the manga and anime a global success“.
Above is a first look at the game, featuring footage of five national teams – France, Uruguay, England, the Netherlands and Italy.
Bandai Namco Entertainment will be offering five different editions of Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions, tailoring to different formats, features and price points. Information on all of these can be found below:
Pre-Order Edition
Those who don’t want to spend any extra money on Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions will be eligible to receive the Pre-Order Edition should they order early. This includes an assortment of downloadable content, including uniform sets.
Deluxe Edition
Those wanting to spend just a bit more might want to nab themselves the Deluxe Edition. This includes a small collection of deluxe edition bonus content, a character pass comprising of nine characters to be released post-launch and a season pass.
Collector’s Edition
The Collector’s Edition is where substantial physical content begins to be added to the game. In addition to the Deluxe Edition content, purchasers will also receive collectible cards, an artboard, figure of Tsubasa Ozora, embroidered badges and a SteelBook cover – all contained within a Collector’s Box.
Champion’s Edition
Still got money to spend? You might want to spend even more to nab yourself a Champion’s Edition. Available on all platforms still, you get all the Collector’s Edition content in addition to a customised football jersey with your name on it.
Legend’s Edition
Arguably one of the most expensive Collector’s Editions I have ever seen, the Legend’s Edition of Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions comes with all the Champion’s Edition content in addition to a fully customised football table from Rene Pierre. This edition is not available from retailers (Although I would love to see someone try to carry this out of their small local games store), instead available exclusively from the Bandai Namco Entertainment E-Commerce Store at a price of €1,989.00.
