At the beginning of a new 40-minute video presentation hosted by the director of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Director Masahiro Sakurai, it was confirmed that the fifth and final DLC fighter for the game’s first fighters pass would be Byleth. Appearing initially in the 2019 RPG Fire Emblem Three Houses from Intelligent Systems as the main playable character, you will be able to add them to your roster from January 28th 2020. Byleth will not just be another swords-user but can switch between four weapons – Sword, Axe, Bow and Spear (each matching a direction) – reflecting the character’s versatility with weapons in their original game.
As with previous DLC fighters, they will also come with their own stage (set in Garreg Mach Academy) and additional music tracks. You can watch the announcement video above, which provides much more information from Mr. Sakurai regarding the stage, moves, final smash and more.
There will be two ways to acquire Byleth in-game. One is to purchase the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass for $24.99 USD or local equivalent. Now with its full roster, this pack will provide you access to Joker (Persona 5), Hero (Dragon Quest), Banjo & Kazooie (Banjo-Kazooie), Terry (Fatal Fury) and Byleth (Fire Emblem Three Houses). Any future fighters will need to be acquired either standalone or as part of a new six-fighter pass. Alternatively, they can be purchased separately for $5.99 USD or local equivalent.
Furthermore, the fifth round of Mii Fighter costumes has been revealed, all to be available on January 28th 2020. Each costume will be sold separately for $0.75 each and includes those based off Altair from Assassin’s Creed (Swordfighter), Rabbid from Ubisoft’s Raving Rabbid’s franchise (Hat), X from Megaman X (Gunner) and MegaMan.EXE from Megaman Battle Network.
Following the game’s 2019 release on the Nintendo Switch after more than a year of Xbox platform exclusivity – Cuphead from StudioMDHR is the focus of this round’s special DLC. In addition to a CupHead Gunner costume being offered, it will also come with an exclusive music track.
